Infrared search and track (IRST) and forward looking infrared (FLIR) are typically server-based, mission-critical systems enabling pilots to detect objects and track targets in extreme conditions. The servers employed in these system are compute-intensive platforms built around stringent design parameters tailored to the unusually limited and demanding confines of a jet fighter’s nose cone. This solution brief introduces how ADLINK’s VPX3020 VPX processor blade helped a leading European military system integrator successfully develop its IRST and FLIR solutions. The VPX3020 provided the customer with a platform that is designed to operate in the harshest in-flight conditions while adhering to strict SWaP requirements.
